Dorothy Maxwell has an MSc in Environmental Economics & Law and a PhD in Environmental Science from Imperial College London and 24 years professional experience working in the environmental / sustainability arena with government and industry in Europe, USA & Asia. Core competences are sustainability in business including measuring, managing and communicating sustainability impacts.
She climbed the green career ladder with international blue chips Accenture and Willis (Asia Pacific), was Director of the Sustainable Business Programme for the Irish government agency Enterprise Ireland incorporating secondments as an environmental policy maker with the European Commission (DG Environment and Enterprise) and United Nations Environment Programme. In 2006, she founded the Global View Sustainability Services (GVSS) think tank & consultancy specialising in supporting business and government on sustainability in products, services and their supply chains. In this content she has been Special Advisor to The Prince of Wales’s International Sustainability Unit (ISU)/Accounting for Sustainability, Technical Advisor to the UK Dept of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) Sustainable Products/Green Economy departments and working with the European Commission DG Environment to deliver the Sustainable Resource Management Framework. Since Nov. 2012, she is the CEO & Executive Director of the Natural Capital Coalition (previously TEEB for Business Coalition).
She has worked with business and major coalitions on sustainability projects across a range of sectors (food, retail, construction, textiles, electronics, chemical, transport, insurance and finance). She has been a representative on the UNEP SCP Marrakech Task Force, WRI/WBCSD Corporate Reporting and Product Life Cycle Accounting and Reporting Standards, EU Environmental Technologies Action Programme, ISO Technical Committee 207, Irish National Waste Prevention Task Force, Technical Advisor to UK PAS2050 Carbon Footprint and is on the boards of the RITE (Reducing the Impact of Textiles on the Environment) Group and sustainable fashion UN Global Compact initiative NICE (Nordic Initiative Clean & Ethical). Dorothy is also a visiting lecturer since 2002 on sustainability in business on the Imperial College London MSc in Environmental Science and has published over 20 business and peer reviewed publications. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Science & Manufacturing.
