Clean Capitalism Armchair: Innovation and the Clean Technology Future

Clean energy technology holds the promise for a more sustainable, less carbon intensive economic future. But policies and programs to stimulate investment in such technologies and to promote their wider deployment need to be expanded.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an internationally recognized environmentalist, has long championed the need for changes in public policy that would enhance clean technology investment, arguing that market security is crucial for sustained growth in the renewable energy and clean technology sectors. His commitment to clean technology extends far beyond his role as an environmental activist. As a Venture Partner and Senior Associate in one of North America’s largest venture capital companies, he has been investing in clean technology startups for over two decades.

Wal van Lierop, President and CEO of Chrysalix Energy Venture Capital, shares Robert Kennedy’s passion for clean energy. Wal is an energy and technology investment veteran, having seen the world of energy and the environment from many angles. He has been a university professor, international management consultant with McKinsey & Company, the Vice President of Strategy for one of Canada’s largest energy companies (Westcoast Energy), and now as a VC focused purely on clean energy investments. He sits on several clean energy and venture capital fund boards and has been recognized as one of Canada’s 2014 Clean16, a prestigious group of individuals advancing the cause of sustainability and clean capitalism.

These two visionaries will share the stage at GLOBE 2014 as part of a special armchair dialogue on innovation and the future of clean technology. This lively discussion will reveal why a well-known environmentalist, and a respected businessman – both investors in clean technology –  share a passion about clean capitalism, namely that profit, innovation, and solving environmental problems can all be enhanced by embracing clean technology innovation.
